Course Description:

Greenisland is a very mature 18-hole Parkland Course designed by Middleton 5,535 metres off the white stakes with a Oar of 71 and a standard scratch of 69 and a course record of 68. A stream transverse the 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th fairways with mature trees festooning the course. The 5th at 389 metres dogleg right with strategically placed bunkers will feel like a birdie if you manage to walk off with a five. Greenisland is steeped in history and as is the norm with Irish Golf Clubs the visitor is always extended the warmest of welcomes.

Club History

Instituted 1894 affiliated 1896The Belfast Newsletter; on 11th June 1984 reports the following. "On Sunday last a number of local gentleman met at the "Knockage" in connection with formation of this new club and inspected the proposed links. It was resolved, at a meeting held subsequently Mr. Berkeley D. Wise, C. E., in the chair, to form the above club provided satisfactory arrangements can be made with the holders of the land"The Sportsman's Holiday Guide; 1896 reads "The Greenisland club has its links close to Greenisland station.

The putting greens mostly artificial, have been laid with seaside turf. There is an excellent clubhouse. The course, which consists of nine holes, commands fine views."Mr. Alex Day, the professional at the Royal Belfast Golf Club, laid out the nine-hole course and he brought the material for the construction of the greens all the way from Magilligan Strand, by rail, free of charge to the club.The first President was Colonel McCalmont C. B. It had a membership of 168, in 1896, and the club had 120 lady members by 1897.

Members Achievements

Greenisland won the Holt Shield when defeating Ardglass in the final on the 7th of October 2001.Stewart Kyle played Ulster Boys' in 1995 and 1996, playing 12 matches.
