| Course Description: |
One of the first municipal golf clubs to be built in Northern
Ireland Lambeg & Aberdelghy was founded in 1986 and designed by Alec Blair and
Greg Ferris. We at The Fairway Tales of Ireland are very supportive of the municipal
courses as we are convinced of the contribution they have made to development
of golf on this Island. We believe these courses have given thousands of golfers
their first opportunity to experience the wonderful game of golf for their first
time, resulting in the vast majority of them falling in love with the game and
forming a love that will last for the rest of his or hers life.
Sandwiched between the River Lagan and the railway line, only
2-miles from the centre of Lisburn, Lambeg is an excellent challenge for both
the novice and experienced golfer. Although a relatively short course measuring
4,143 metres for the men and 3,655 metres for the ladies with a Par of 66 and
65 respectively, the emphasis being on accuracy rather than distance. Water
comes into play on no less than five of the holes. The signature hole is undoubtedly
the 12th at 340 metres played as a dogleg through tall trees to a well-protected
green where the water comes into play together with the strategically placed
bunkers. Ian Murdock maintains a well-stocked Pro. Shop, that is always
worth a visit.
