Course Description:

This Eddie Hackett designed 9-hole course, measuring 5,278 metres and a standard scratch of 68, opened for play in 1998. Set in mature parklands with mature trees and water coming into play, Dunmore Demesne may be a short course, but it is difficult and rewards accuracy. It is the only course I know of with the local GAA pitch in the middle of it, which shows once again the closeness between our national games and golf. Indeed as an ex-hurler and footballer I, like many others took to golf after my playing days. However I am concerned about where our hurlers of the future are going to come from, as I know many of our top amateur golfers and professional players cut their teeth on the GAA pitch. Maybe Dunmore Demesne have the answer: the young men and girls can play their game of golf and then tog out on the GAA pitch!

Club History

Founded 1988, Dunmore Golf Club originated from a very successful Golf Society set up in 1988, when there were only 12 golfers in the Dunmore Parish. Ballyhaunis Golf Club was then their home club and they assisted them in providing playing facilities for the Golf Society, which grew to over 100 members. The origins of golf in Dunmore go back to the 70s when a festival day called "Fahy Day" was run to encourage new golfers to participate in golf. This festival day has grown to 240 members playing in the year 2000 in a scramble format.

Location

Dunmore Demesne Golf Club is 10 miles north of Tuam and 30 miles from Galway City at the top of Dunmore town just in to the left.
