Course Description
.
Designed by Ryder Cup player Christy O’Connor Jnr. The Championship Course is a par72, 7186 yd's, with a standard scratch of 74 from the back tees. There are no easy holes, with wide landing areas the only concession to demanding approach shots to almost every green. I remember, discussing this course with the Dalton Brothers of Waterford who had recently played Mount Wolseley for the first time of the back tees, they described it thus: "We had a pain in our drivers" this from two International amateur golfers gives one the degree of difficulty. There is water in play on eleven holes, with the eleventh, an all water carry, off the championship tee of 207 yd's. A round of golf at Mount Wolseley is always a treat to remember for golfers who enjoy a challenging and exiting game, in what is a memorable and historic location.

The visual delights of this magnificent setting are many - just a few hundred yd's from the banks of the meandering river Slaney, its rich population of mature, its lakes - all set against the backdrop of the haunting splendour of the mountains of East Carlow and Wicklow. The hotel and other facilities at Mount Wolseley are as good as you will find anywhere in Ireland.

Societies are welcome and group rates are available. Voted the No. 46-ranked golf course in Ireland, by “Golf Digest Ireland” in 2008. Mount Wolsely Country Resort was voted No. 27 Parkland/Inland Course in Ireland by "Backspin" Irelands leading Golf magazine in 2008, the panel comprised of a selection of 52 Professional and amateur golfers throughout Ireland.

Club History
.

Once part of the thirty thousand Co. Carlow acres owned by the Butler dynasty, Mount Aaron, came into the possession of the Wolseley family of Staffordshire in 1725. It was the only, gentry home in the county, to have been, torched by insurgents during the 1798 Rebellion, but not before lead from the roof had been enterprisingly removed to make ammunition. Mount Wolseley House was rebuilt in 1864.

Mount Wolseley connections would touch historic events far from Irish shores. It was the ancestral home of the famous brothers Field-Marshal Viscount Garnet Wolseley, one of Britain’s most important military leaders, and Frederick York Wolseley, who pioneered mechanical sheep sheering in Australia, and in whose Birmingham factory the first British-designed car was built in 1895.

The 200-acre property was sold in 1925 to the Patrician Brothers, an Order founded in Tullow by Bishop Daniel Delaney in 1808. In 1994 Mount Wolseley was, purchased by Donal Morrissey and family, whose decision to develop a championship golf course, heralds another era of change in the approach to the twenty-first century.
