On Opening Day - May 4th 1907 - Dr. Anislee Hudson , the Honorary Secretary , outlined the club’s aims and objectives and an exhibition match was played by the McNamara brothers from Lahinch , one of whom John was the Muskerry Golf Club Professional . Champagne corks popped to mark the christening ceremony and the club was wished long life and prosperity. Twelve months later the first Annual General Meeting is recorded in the club minute book.Affiliation to the GUI followed in 1910 and the course was extended to 18 holes under the supervision of Dr Alister Mackenzie, who was paying his first visit to the South of Ireland. Further major development was undertaken in 1958 and the late 60’s paving the way for the magnificent facility that exists nowadays - the great finishing stretch, in particular making for a wonderful and exciting challenge.
The Great James Bruen played most of his early golf at Muskerry and it was indeed the club that gave him his first handicap of six in 1935 and, within a year, he had become the first Irish player to win the British Boys Championship at Royal Birkdale. Representing Muskerry he also won the Irish Close Championships of 1937 (Ballybunion) and 1938 ( The Castle) and while still a schoolboy at Presentation Brothers College Cork in 1938 , he put Muskerry on the International map by inspiring Britain & Ireland to their first victory over the United States in the Walker Cup Competition .
International Michael Power brought honour and glory to the Club when defeating the great Joe Carr in the 1951 Irish Close Championship at Cork Golf Club Little Island while another Club member Larry McCarthy, after a distinguished record with the Irish senior Team , was chosen as non playing Captain in 1977.
The Late Taoiseach, Jack Lynch was Club president in 1970, while former Golfing Union of Ireland President Pat Foley was honoured with Presidency of the European Golf Association in 1977 . P. J. O'Connor was elected to the council of the Munster branch of the GUI in 2001
In the playing Arena Muskerry’s representatives have worn the club colours with pride and passion and pennants adorning the new clubhouse opened in June 1997 reveal national honours were achieved in the
Irish Senior Cup 1946 1947 and 1953, Irish Junior Cup 1954 and 1962 and
Pierce Purcell Shield 1971 and 1978.
Muskerry Juniors and Juveniles have been to the fore in recent years Garry Healy played Munster Boys from 1995 to 1996, playing 12 Matches. David O'Donovan played Munster Boys in 1994. Niall Turner won the U-17 Trophy in the Irish Boys Amateur Close Championships at Strandhill in 2000 and went on to represent Ireland in Boys Home internationals and Europeans and subsequently was selected on the Great Britain & Ireland team to play the Rest of Europe in the Jacques Legaise Trophy in 2001.
David Daly was selected for the Munster U-17 Team and the Irish U-17 panel in 2001 and Ronan Twomey won the Kerry Boys in Ballybunion in 2001 and set a new Course record in Adare Manor (63) competing in the Munster Boys Championship in the same year.

Muskerry Golf Club celebrated their Centenary year in 2007 with style when they did the double at Shandon Park Golf Club in 2007, wining the All-Ireland Irish Junior Cup and the All-Ireland Jimmy Bruen Shield, to add to their long history of wins in the Cups & Shields.Muskery Golf Club won the Munster Final of the Irish Junior Cup and made the long journey to Belfast to compete in the All-Ireland deciders. They were drawn against Leinster Champions Balbriggan in the All-Ireland Semi-Final on Wednesday 12th September.
First on the tee was Eoin O'Callaghan against Gerald Gallen who put the first points on the board for Muskerry with a 4 and 3 win. He was followed by Daniel Hallissey who lost out to Ian Reynolds by 2 and 1. Next up was Dave Lane against John Fitzpatrick, Dave won by 4 and 3. the penultimate match say Gordian Barry lose out to Peter Slevin by 4 and 3. So it was all down the bottom match of Ger O'Shea against Liam Rooney, but Ger had everything under control when recording a convincing 6 and 4 win to put Muskerry into the All-Ireland Final the following day.
They were drawn against Ulster Champions Belvoir Park Golf Club, who had dismissed Connacht Champions Castlebar by 4 matches to 1 match enroot to the final.
First on the tee on Thursday was Eoin O'Callaghan against Ian Browne, who again put Muskerry on their way with a 5 and 3 win. He was followed by Daniel Hallissey who beat Martin Kelly by 3 and 2. With 2 points on the board David Lane came up against Declan O'Hara with the Belfast man winning by 3 and 2. Gordian Barry was to deliver the vital 3rd point and the All-Ireland green pennant when he beat Alan McMillen by 3 and 2. Ger O'Shea playing anchor could not repeat his brilliance of the previous day when he lost out to Mick Malone by 6 and 5.
Muskerry Golf Club recorded their 3rd All-Ireland title in the Irish Junior Cup with a 3 matches to 2 match decider against Belvoir Park Golf Club.
Muskerry Golf Club won the Munster Final of the Jimmy Bruen Shield at home on 1st July 2007 when they beat Dooks Golf Club by 3 1/2 matches to 1 1/2 matches, when the team was Paul Herlihy with Denis Lynch, Daniel Hallisey with Eoin O'Callaghan, David Lane with Jerry O'Callaghan, Jackie Solan with Gordian Barry, Ben Hart and Michael McGrath and Michael O'Leary, Sean Cronin, Denis Keane, Adrian O'Sullivan, James Hornibrook and Neil O'Brian, they were managed by Maurice Leahy assisted by Dermot Linehan.
They made the long journey to Shandon Park Golf Club in Belfast, to compete in the All-Ireland Semi-Final against Leinster Champions Templemore on Friday 14th September.
The team on the day was Paul Herlihy with Denis Lynch against David Hughes with Kevin McEntee; the Muskerry pair put the first points on the board with a 1-hole win. Next up were Daniel Hallissey with Eoin O'Callaghan who halved their match against Pat Keegan with John O'Shea. They were followed by David Lane with Jerry O'Callaghan who also halved their match against Eoin Flanagan with John Hopkins. The penultimate match say Jimmy Hornibrook with Neil O'Brien record a resounding 5 and 4 win over Liam Hoctor with Noel Mannion. The anchor match of Gordian Barry with Jackie Solan against Morgan Byrne with Joe Morris ended with a 4 and 3 win for Muskerry.
In the afternoon they met Ulster Champions Scrabo Golf Club in the All-Ireland decider, Scrabo had dismissed Tuam Golf Club in their Semi-Final by 4 matches to 1 match.
First on the tee were Paul Herlihy with Denis Lynch against Tim Ballie with Bill Fulton who lost their match by 3 and 2. They were followed by Daniel Hallissey with Eoin O'Callaghan who put the first points on the board wit a 2 and 1 win over Mark Johnston with David Thompson. Next on the tee were David Lane with Jerry O'Callaghan against David Graham with Richard Corry and they had a very convincing 7 and 5 win over the Ulster men. Jimmy Hornibrook with Neil O'Brien played in the penultimate match against Nigel Carson with Ross Henderson; this match went down to the wire before Muskerry closed it out on the 20th-hole and clinch the All-Ireland. The anchor match Gordian Barry with Jackie Solan against Tom Mageean with Glen Thompson was also tight with the Scrabo men shading it with a 1-hole win.
So Muskerry Golf Club added their first All-Ireland Jimmy Bruen Shield to their long list of All-Ireland green pennants on this their Centenary Year.
David Daly was selected for the Munster Boys' team in the Interprovincial Championships at Headfort Golf Club from August 28-30 2002.
Muskerry won the South Munster Area final of the Irish Mixed Foursomes, when they beat Douglas by 4.5 matches to a .5 match at Monkstown in May 2001.
Niall Turner was selected on the Irish Boys' team for the Home Internationals at Moortown, Leeds in August 2001.
P. J. O'Connor was elected to the council of the Munster Branch of the GUI for 2001.
Muskerry Gol Club has a long and proud history in the National Championships, having won the Irish Senior Cup at Co. Sligo G. C. in 1953, and at Lahinch G. C. in 1947, having won it the previous year at The Royal Dublin G. C. They did the double in 1953 when they captured the Barton Shield as well. They won the Bulmers Junior Cup at Royal Portrush G. C. in 1962 and at Carlow G. C. in1954, and the Bulmers Pierce Purcell Shield at Co. Sligo in 1971.

They won the Munster Club Youths at Nenagh Golf Club in 2001, when the team was John O'Neill, Niall Turner, David Daly and Ronan Twomey, they were managed by Pat Turner.
They won the Aer Lingus Munster Youths' in 1983, with Stephen Heelan, Jimmy Hornibrook, Pat Manley and were captained by John O'Leary.
Paddy Harrington played in the Seniors Home Internationals at Nairin Golf Club in 2002 and won the Irish Seniors 60+ at Limerick Golf Club the same year.
The Ladies of Muskerry Golf Club won the ILGU Munster Intermediate League in 1990, when the team was Eileen Buckley, Marian Hegarty, Mary Healy, Bridie Casey, Aedin McCarthy, Lucia Ahern, Paula McNamara, Eleanor O'Regan, they were captained by Teresa McCarthy.
