As a relatively new club Woodlands Golf Club recorded their first victory in the Leinster Final of the Pierce Purcell Shield when they beat Castle by 3 and halve matches to 1 and halve matches at Athy Golf Club on Saturday 8th July 2006.
It was on to Enniscrone Golf Club for the National Finals, where they where drawn against Munster Champions Charleville Golf Club in the All-Ireland Semi-Final on Thursday 14th September.
First up were Peter Kenny with Jimmy Galloway against Joe Carroll with Dermot Whelan, this match went all the way to the 19th before the lads from Woodlands put the first points on the board for the Leinster Champions. Next up were Padraig Dermody with Liam Darcy who beat Pat O’Shaughnessy with John O’Keeffe by 3 and 2. Things were looking sweet for Woodlands at this stage Tommy Goulding with John McEvoy went down to Paddy Kelly and Francis Finn by 4 and 3. They were followed by Jack Sullivan with John Crampton against Seamus Lyons with Pat Nagle who lost out by 6 and 5. It all hung on the last match between Jim Russell with Tadgh Butler against Tom Barrett with Steven Moloney, this match went all the way up the 20th-hole before they lost out to the Munster Champions who eventually went on to clinch the All-Ireland title the following day against Connaught Champions Loughrea Golf Club.
Young 14 year-old Mark Ivers had some of a year's golf in 2000, when he was in the winner's enclosure no less than 13 times. Juniors are thankfully allowed to play in the senior competitions at Woodlands. Mark, a big lad for his age, won the committee prize, the Sean Moore Cup, and the John Clinch Cup among others. He should be one to watch in the future when he goes on the Boys' tour.
Woodlands won the Bloomfield Cup in 1997.
