Club History

Instituted 1879, affiliated 1912. The 2nd Battalion Kings Own Borderers, laid out an eight-hole course at Musketry Camp, about four miles from Kinsale, when the regiment was stationed there from April, 1883 to the Autumn of 1884. The "Sportsman's Holiday Guide" 1897 records "The Kinsale Golf Club links are situated on the glacis of Charles Fort and command extensive views of the Atlantic, Kinsale Harbour and town, the Royal Naval Reserve Battery, etc. The course is one of nine-holes and is about one mile in circuit". There was no clubhouse and the Kinsale Arms Hotel looked after the needs of golfers. The minute books of the present club only go back to 1932 and the club lists its foundation date as 1912 with a nine-hole course at Ringenane; however, there is little doubt that golf was played at Kinsale as far back as 1883. Kinsale is now a twenty-seven-hole course.

Location

The club has two courses. Farrangalway is north west of the town, take the R72 from Cork and take the left at Halfway. The course is signposted to the right (from Cork) after a stretch of bad bends through a wood. From Kinsale turn left at the White House and turn right at the following crossroads. Then right again and follow road for 3km to signposted left turn.

From Kinsale Ringenane can be reached on the R600 south from Cork or north from Kinsale towards Belgooly and Cork.
